As there are many different types of minerals, the FDA does not approve all minerals as necessary or as safe. Some of the minerals available for purchase can be harmful if taken incorrectly. There is some mystery surrounding the benefits and toxicity of minerals.
There are two types of minerals. There are trace minerals and macrominerals. Both trace and macrominerals are required for your body to function well. However, there are different amount requirements.
Examples of trace minerals are iron, copper, zinc, and iodine. The body does not require big amounts of trace minerals, hence the name “trace”. There are different trace mineral combinations each person needs to function well.
Macrominerals are minerals that the body has an abundance of and must continuously consume larger amounts than trace minerals. Calcium, sodium, chloride, potassium are examples of macrominerals. Remember that it is wise to consult with your physician when choosing the best mineral combination for your specific needs.
